Commission Calculator
Calculate sales commission from a sales amount and commission rate, with optional base pay.
How to use the commission calculator
Choose sales commission for a quick estimate, or choose base pay plus commission when you also want total compensation. Enter the sales amount and commission rate, then review the result in your browser.
Commission formula
Commission = sales amount x commission rate / 100
For base pay mode, total compensation equals base pay plus the calculated commission.
How percentage commission works
A 5% rate means five dollars of commission for every $100 in sales. For example, $10,000 in sales at 5% produces $500 in commission.
Base pay plus commission
Base pay mode keeps the commission separate and then adds it to the base pay you enter. This is a mathematical estimate, not a payroll record.
Worked examples
$10,000 in sales at 5% produces $500 in commission.
With $2,000 in base pay, $20,000 in sales, and a 4% rate, commission is $800 and total compensation is $2,800.
Tiered commission
This version uses one commission rate for the sales amount. Tiered plans are not included because their thresholds and rules vary by plan.
Important note
Results are mathematical estimates. Taxes, deductions, chargebacks, bonuses, quotas, caps, employer plans, and contract rules are not included unless you enter them as part of the inputs. Actual commission may differ according to the compensation plan.
Frequently asked questions
How is sales commission calculated?
Multiply the sales amount by the commission rate, then divide by 100. A $10,000 sale at 5% is $500.
Can I include a base salary?
Yes. Choose Base pay plus commission and enter the base pay. The calculator adds that amount to the commission estimate.
Does this calculate taxes or take-home pay?
No. It calculates commission and, in base pay mode, total compensation before taxes and other payroll adjustments.
