How to use the salary to hourly calculator

Enter the annual salary, then review the default assumptions of 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year. Edit either assumption when the work schedule differs. The calculator updates the hourly, weekly, biweekly, and monthly estimates in your browser.

Salary to hourly formula

Hourly rate = annual salary / (hours per week x weeks per year)

Weekly pay divides annual salary by weeks per year. Biweekly pay doubles the weekly estimate, and monthly pay divides annual salary by 12.

How hours per week affect the hourly rate

With the same annual salary, more hours per week produce a lower estimated hourly rate because the salary is spread across more annual hours.

How weeks per year affect the calculation

Weeks per year is an explicit assumption. Lowering it increases the estimated weekly pay and hourly rate because the annual salary is spread across fewer working weeks.

Worked examples

A $52,000 annual salary at 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year is about $25.00 per hour. The same estimate is $1,000 weekly, $2,000 biweekly, and $4,333.33 monthly.

A $75,000 annual salary at 37.5 hours per week and 52 weeks per year is about $38.46 per hour.

What this estimate includes
